Just recently I reviewed a TV commercial for 20/20. This year 20/20 will be celebrating its 20 year anniversary. The commercial was a 45 second glimpse over the top news stories over the past 20 years. After the clip was over with, my husband and I quietly sat for a moment. Then he finally said, “Wow, I don’t think people have noticed how many horrific and devastating events we have had over the past 20 years.”Sadly, I believe this is true. For many of us the constant flow of daily news reports filled with calamitous stories have become somewhat of a “norm “of modern life. We are used to hearing these types of reports. In many cases, we have grown dull and insensitive and no longer respond with shock over catastrophic events.
By now everyone can clearly see this world is in deep, deep trouble. Yes, our daily news reports from across the globe are filled with stories of monumental financial failures, corrupt politicians and governments, dark immoral and unethical activities, cataclysmic acts of nature, horrific acts of terrorism, civil unrest, murder, greed, and need I say more? Every one of us need to stop, take time, and ask ourselves, “What in the world is going on?” There is an overwhelming amount of chaos and widespread epidemic of non-stop violence that covers our world.
With all these things happening where is the world headed? When will it end? How should we live? Well, I am so thankful there is hope! I am so glad over 2,000 years ago Jesus, Himself prophesied such a time would come; and He also told us what to do and how to live.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (KJV)
I tell you, it brings such peace in my heart to read Jesus’ words. His words bring hope and encouragement to a chaotic world. We are also encouraged by the words of Apostle Paul, to be looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He also reminds us that our citizenship is in heaven, no matter where we live on the planet. Apostle Paul asks the question, since we see all these things and they will pass away, “What manner of persons ought we be in holy conduct and godliness?”
It would seem that the answer would be obvious, since we have real evidence of the terrible state of this present world and mankind. We should strive to live a life of purity and holiness. God has sounded the alarm of His soon return and all who love Him hears it ringing loudly and clearly. The Bibles says, “To day if ye will hear his (Jesus) voice, harden not your heart.” Hebrews 4:7(KJV)
Today God is sounding the alarm of the soon return of Jesus. Right now all need to repent and turn to Jesus and make Him Lord over your life.
